Leftover ordinance from American bombing. The Cu Chi area has been called "the most bombed, shelled, gassed, defoliated, and generally devastated area in the history of warfare." The forest was completely destroyed and craters dot the landscape, but to the casual observer, it's hard to tell what really went on here.
