Mexico

I have visited Mexico several times but so far only in the southern states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and the Yucatan. I first traveled to the Yucatan in 2001 for a wedding that turned into a vacation instead after that was called off at the last minute. But it was fun to visit the coast and to see the cenotes and ruins such as Chichen Itza. I then returned just this past year, once in March 07 and again in December, both times for work. I was working in a very quaint colonial town in Chiapas called San Cristobal de las Casas. From there I did some weekend day trips to waterfalls and the Mayan ruins of Palenque. I also spent 4 days in the neighboring state of Oaxaca where I visited two Zapotec ruins as well as a mezcal factory, a weaving village, other artisans and some great churches and museums. I was fortunate to be in Oaxaca for Christmas celebrations and it was great because they really celebrate down there, complete with parades, balloons, music and lots of festivities.
