Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the name referring to the complex of temples and buildings that once was the spiritual and political heart of the vast Khmer Empire. This empire was the largest and most dominant in SE Asia, stretching from Cambodia to what is now Vietnam and up into parts of present-day Thailand and Laos. Within the Angkor area, there are over 100 structures remaining, primarily temples that were built out of stone. More common structures were built of wood and have long since succumbed to the elements. However, many of the stone structures are still remarkably intact, even after enduring more than 10 centuries of tropical monsoons and unrelenting heat and humidity.
